high maka maka – numbered edition of 50 - bone
description
a limited-run heavyweight tee for anyone with an attitude who knows that, sometimes, they may be a little too puffed up for their own reef.
"high maka maka" is a local phrase for someone acting snobbish, superior, or overly self-important. naturally, the pufferfish felt qualified for the role.
front and center: a fully inflated puffer rendered like an old natural-history plate, paired with the mock-latin label Pestis Sum. below it, "HIGH MAKA MAKA" brings it back home. sharp local phrase, clean graphic read, just enough attitude without yelling about it.
this run is limited to 50 total tees across all sizes. each shirt is individually numbered as orders are processed, and once all 50 are claimed, this exact design, colorway, and garment combination is pau, finished, done.
design notes: front graphic features a fully inflated pufferfish with a natural-history-inspired illustration style, detailed dot texture, dramatic fins, false lashes, and a deeply unimpressed expression. the design pairs two naming systems: Pestis Sum, a mock-latin species label for a creature convinced of its own importance, and HIGH MAKA MAKA below, the local phrase that gives the shirt its bite. clean from a distance, more going on the closer you get. finished with a woven kailua hi sleeve label and an individually assigned edition number (x of 50) printed near the lower front hem.
feel
100% carded cotton 7.1 oz heavyweight fabric garment dyed for a faded, lived-in finish. lighter on the edges, deeper in the creases. softer and more broken-in than a standard heavyweight from the first wear.
for reference:
• 3.0 - 4.5 oz/yd²: very light, airy
• 4.5 - 6.0 oz/yd²: standard everyday tee weight
• 6.0 - 7.5 oz/yd²: heavy tee, more structured
• 7.5 - 9.0 oz/yd²: extra heavy / “street-luxe”
fit
men's relaxed, boxy fit dropped shoulders and wide neck ribbing give it a slightly more structured streetwear shape. for women: size down for a closer fit, or take your usual size for an oversized look
inspiration
started on a beach walk.
a pufferfish had washed up on shore, fully inflated, the karen of the reef, sitting there like it had just asked to speak to the manager of the ocean. ridiculous, dramatic, and strangely dignified.
it felt like the perfect marine metaphor for high maka maka: all puffed up, acting superior, taking up more space than the situation really requires.
the result is part beach-walk oddity, part local phrase study, part wearable warning label for inflated self-importance.
